The Government has allowed the key contractor behind the UK’s smart meter roll-out programme an extra four months to deliver the crucial communication links.

The Data Communications Company (DCC) was handed the licence to provide the communication services between smart meters and the business systems of energy suppliers, network operators and other authorised service users.  The DCC was expected to deliver the infrastructure by the end of the year. However, Parliament has allowed a request by the company to now ‘adopt an alternative delivery plan’. Under the revised plan, the DCC will plan to deliver operational services from April 2016.
